Sign-ups to put on your calendar this fall and winter

A lot of what kids do here fills up months ahead. Here's what's coming up over the next few months. Tap Remind me on Plan ahead to get each one on your calendar.

Open now

• YMCA winter basketball sign-ups are open. The season starts December 7, and it's $150, with financial help available.
• The Desert Recreation District NFL flag football league is taking sign-ups for ages 5 to 14. Games start January 29.
• AYSO soccer in Desert Hot Springs closes October 31.

School choice

• Desert Sands Unified opens transfer, magnet and academy applications on December 4. They close February 27. If you want your child at a school other than your neighborhood school, this is the window.
• Palm Springs Unified's school-of-choice window ran January 5 to March 6 last year. Expect it around early January again.

Thanksgiving and winter break

• The Living Desert has ZooCamp over Thanksgiving week (November 23 to 25) and over winter break (December 21 to 23 and 28 to 30).
• The Desert Recreation District runs break camps in Palm Desert and Indio.

Spring sports and the arts

• La Quinta youth baseball and softball sign-ups ran December 1 to January 31 last year.
• McCallum Theatre's Open Call talent show took video entries from mid-November to early January last year. It's free, for kids 8 and up who live nearby.
